Body of Katherine Diaz won't be returned to Venezuela

Even as police continue their investigations into the death of Venezuelan national Katherine Diaz, police have been told that there are no plans on what to do with Diaz’s body.

Police were told that relatives of the 26-year-old, who was a mother of four children aged 12, seven, five and three, were unable to afford to bring the woman’s body back to Venezuela.

Instead, funds are currently being raised with the intent to bury Diaz in Trinidad.

Diaz, 26, arrived in Trinidad by boat seven days before she was fatally stabbed by a man known to her on the morning of May 5, 2019, at an apartment along King Street, Princes Town.

She suffered injuries to her abdomen, leg, back and arm.

Despite being rushed for medical treatment, Diaz died at the Princes Town District Hospital around 6:00 am that day.

More on this as it becomes available.
