Body with severed head found in Santa Flora

A decomposing body was found in a forested area in Santa Flora on Saturday night.

The head, police said, was detached and found a short distance away.

The deceased had not been identified up to Sunday midday as police said the state of decomposition was advanced.

It was so advanced that police could not even say with any degree of certainty what might have been the cause of death.

However, police did observe burn marks around the remains, leading officers to believe that this may have been a homicide and that the assailants attempted to burn the body to destroy any evidence.

The discovery was made around 8.00 pm on Saturday night by two hunters who were in a forested area.

They immediately notified the police upon stumbling across the discovery.

More on this as it becomes available.
