Boy, 12, shot in chest as family ambushed by gunmen
A 12-year-old boy is nursing gunshot injuries following an attack at his Balandra home on Saturday morning.
The incident also resulted in two other relatives, 23-year-old Azim Ali, and 34-year-old Roland Maharaj being shot.
According to police reports, the incident happened just after midnight yesterday.
The three wounded relatives were at their home with other relatives along Robert Street, Rampanalgas Village, when they heard strange noises on the roof of the building.
When they went outside to investigate the sounds, they were greeted with gunfire.
Ali was hit in the right shoulder, while Maharaj was shot in the left leg.
The 12-year-old boy, who was standing in the corridor at the time, was shot in the left side of the chest.
The gunmen also opened fire on a Kia Sportage which was parked outside, and the vehicle reportedly caught afire.
The police and emergency health services were notified and officers of the Eastern Division responded.
The three relatives were all rushed for medical treatment.
Up to today, they were in a serious but stable condition.
At least 15 spent shells were recovered at the scene, along with three live rounds.
