Boy, 14, shot in abdomen in Sangre Grande

A 14-year-old boy is warded at the Sangre Grande District Hospital after he was shot in the abdomen on Wednesday.

Police say the victim who cannot be named because he is a minor, was at home with a relative along San Pedro Trace, Valencia, when a masked man entered the premises.

The teenager reportedly heard several explosions and felt burning sensations to the abdomen and forehead.

The masked man then fled the scene.

The police and emergency health services were notified and the wounded teen was rushed to the nearby health facility where he was treated and stabilised and later transferred to the District Hospital.

Police currently have no motive for the incident, however, they do not believe the boy was the target.

Instead, sources say a relative of the 14-year-old was “well known” to police and officers are considering that the gunman may have been searching for this individual.
