Boy, 5, hospitalised after almost drowning

A five-year-old boy is warded at the Sangre Grande District Hospital after a ‘near-drowning’ experience.

The child was bathing with relatives at the Matura River Saturday afternoon when he went under for a brief moment.

Relatives immediately responded and got the child out of the water, however, he was not responsive.

The police and paramedics were notified and the five-year-old was rushed to the nearby health center where he was resuscitated.

He was then transferred to the Sangre Grande District Hospital where he was treated.

Once he is stabilised, he is expected to be transferred to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Mt Hope for further treatment.

Eastern Division police are continuing inquiries.
