The UK Foreign Office on Wednesday updated its travel advice for Trinidad and Tobago following protests in the capital city of Port-of-Spain.

British nationals were advised to follow local advice and exercise caution.

"There were widespread protests in Port-of-Spain on 30 June following the killing of three men in the Morvant area of Port-of-Spain by police on 27 June. The burning of tyres and gunshots were reported. The TT Police Service and Defence Force are dealing with the situation and a number of arrests have been made."

"The TTPS issued a red alert. If there are further protests roads may be closed at short notice. You should follow the instructions of the local authorities."

On Tuesday, the US Embassy in Trinidad and Tobago also issued a security alert for parts of Trinidad following incidents of civil unrest in the capital and other areas.

Protests continued in and around Port-of-Spain on Wednesday.
