Created : 26 January 2018
There are reports in the Canadian media that two brothers from Ontario in that country have been charged with raping an American woman in Jamaica last month.
The incident allegedly took place at a hotel in Hanover, and involved a 20-year-old woman.
CBC news based in Toronto, Canada, quoted well-known Jamaican attorney, Peter Champagnie, who is representing the brothers, who are aged 18 and 22 years, as saying that the two accused were released on bail of CAD$3,510 last week.
However, they are not allowed to leave Jamaica while the case is before the courts.
The men, who have each been charged with one count of rape, have reportedly denied the allegations.
The brothers are both students studying in Canada. Their names have not been released because both have reportedly signed a privacy agreement.
They are expected to appear in court on January 30.
Global Affairs Canada is said to be investigating the matter, and is providing ‘consular services’ to the two accused.
