A relative of a well-known businessman was expected to appear before a Port of Spain Magistrate on Monday on charges of marijuana possession and cultivation.

25-year-old Elias Aboud was one of two people held during police exercises, who led officers to a home in Goodwood Park.

Aboud was charged with two counts of possession of apparatus, one count of flat possession of marijuana (10.2 grammes), and one count of cultivating marijuana.

The other suspect, 26-year-old Alex Franco, was charged for marijuana possession.

LoopTT was told that around 3:00 am Sunday, the suspect was held with a quantity of marijuana during a routine police exercise along Victoria Avenue, Diego Martin.

This led the officers to search the suspect’s home, via a search warrant, where more illegal items were held.

The items included quantities of marijuana – in both cured and liquid form.

Apparatus used for the cultivation of the drugs, as well as cash and other items of value were seized.

The exercise was supervised by Snr Sup Pragg with assistance from Sup Ramjohn, Sgt Perry, Cpl Williams and others.

Both men were granted bail.

More on this as it becomes available.
