Businessman shot in chest

A Barrackpore bar owner remains hospitalised after being shot during a robbery attempt last Wednesday.

The businessman was shot in the chest when he jumped in front of his wife to save her from harm.

After securing their bar in Monkey Town, Barrackpore, around 7.40 pm, the couple headed to the car park where they were accosted by a gunman.

The bandit demanded what the couple had on them, and as the businessman reached into his pocket for his wallet, a gun was pointed at him.

The gun jammed and the armed assailant then turned the weapon on the man’s wife.

The 30-year-old man was shot during a struggle with the bandit and fell to the ground.

The bandit escaped on foot.

The wounded man was taken to the San Fernando General Hospital for treatment.
