Cabinet approves funds to repair Carapichaima East Secondary

Cabinet has granted approval for the release of over two million dollars for major infrastructural repairs at the Carapichaima East Secondary School.

Education Minister Anthony Garcia said in a statement issued Friday that Cabinet’s approval was necessary for this project because the amount required is more than $1 million.

According to Garcia, the Assembly Hall and Technical Block ‘O’ will be treated as priority for repairs in order to have the Occupational Safety and Health Authority (OSHA) lift its ‘Prohibition Notice’ to facilitate the resumption of classes on the compound. Repairs on the Cafeteria and Library will be addressed after classes resume.

Garcia will ask the Education Facilities Company Limited (EFCL) to tender for a contractor for the project to start repairs within another two weeks.

The Ministry said all repairs should be completed within one month.

The Ministry added that Forms Five and Six students doing their School-Based Assessments (SBAs) and Internal Assessments (IAs) for Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) are attending classes at Chaguanas North Secondary, Waterloo Secondary & Carapichaima West Secondary Schools & at the Chaguanas & Couva Public Libraries.

The Ministry said it is providing transport for these students using the Public Transport Service Corporation (PTSC) buses.
