CAL distances company from Florida gun seizure
Caribbean Airlines has issued a statement denying any involvement with the alleged gun seizure which occurred in the state of Florida at the Miami International Airport on November 13.
In the release issued on Friday, CAL said contrary to media reports, there were no contraband items carried or pre-arranged to be carried on any of its flights.
CAL also reiterated that it adheres to the strictest security standards in keeping with the statutory requirements of all jurisdictions into which the airline operates.
According to reports, US enforcement officials seized over 100 illegal firearms and several rounds of ammunition bound for Montego Bay, Jamaica.
The authorities were said to be conducting routine security screenings at the airport in November when two blue barrels comprising 'personal effects' were found to contain 115 pistols, 139 magazines and 267 assorted rounds of ammunition.
