Canadian national charged for drunk driving

A 30-year-old Canadian national has been fined $3000 for driving under the influence.

Narad Persad appeared before a Tunapuna Magistrate on Tuesday charged with the offence.

Police said that Persad was tested on Tuesday morning after he was stopped by officers of the Highway Patrol Unit led by WPC Scott and PC Willet.

The officers were on routine patrol along the Churchill Roosevelt Highway around 5 am on Tuesday when they observed an accident involving multiple vehicles along the east-bound lane.

The officers stopped to render assistance, and upon talking to the victims, they detected the scene of alcohol on Persad’s breath.

He was administered a breathaylser test and he gave a reading of 89 microgrammes.

The legal limit in this country is 35 microgrammes.
