Car thieves held minutes after robbery
A teenager is one of two people arrested in connection with a report of robbery with violence against a 60-year-old Arima man, in which a vehicle which was reported stolen was recovered minutes later.
The victim told police he was driving his silver Nissan AD Wagon in Santa Rosa around 12 am on Friday, when he picked up two men he knows.
He said he was hired to transport the men to the Arima market, where they picked up four people including a woman.
The victim said he took the group to a bar in Malabar and then to Port of Spain, before heading to Hamilton Siding Road, Wallerfield around 1 am to drop them off.
The 60-year-old man said one of the men then ordered him to stop the vehicle, while another placed the gear lever of the vehicle into park.
The group then allegedly pulled him out of the vehicle and started to beat him.
He said he escaped his attackers and ran off into some nearby bushes, while the group boarded the vehicle and escaped.
Seeking assistance from a resident from the area a report was made to the Arima Police Station.
The stolen vehicle was intercepted some 20 minutes later by officers of the Northern Division’s Rapid Response Unit and Cpl Pooran Sookram and officers of the Northern Division Task Force, along the Churchill Roosevelt Highway, Wallerfield.
Two male suspects; a 17-year-old and a 22-year-old, both of Demerara Road, Arima were found in the vehicle and detained.
Investigations are ongoing.
