Carnival visitors receive welcome reception at Piarco Int'l Airport

Scores of persons visiting Trinidad and Tobago for Carnival 2019 received a warm welcome at the Piarco International Airport on Wednesday.

The Airports Authority, Tourism Trinidad Limited, Caribbean Airlines and the National Carnival Commission joined together to stage a welcome reception for visitors.

Arriving visitors were greeted at the International Arrivals Concourse with a festive atmosphere, set alight by the sweet strains of steel pan music and dancing masqueraders.

The Airports Authority in a statement on Friday said it recognizes the crucial role of the airports in influencing the first impressions of visitors as they arrive.

The Authority added that it is important to ensure that our visitors to Trinidad and Tobago feel a ‘sense of place’ as they land at our airports.

It said this collaboration helps to create deep linkages among stakeholders in the aviation, culture and tourism industries, as we aim toward accomplishing common goals and improving the tourism product of destination Trinidad and Tobago.

The Authority added that it recently installed decorative features in the Immigration Halls depicting various aspects of our culture and unique Carnival Arts, as it aims to transform the Piarco International Airport into a living museum that showcases the social, cultural and physical landscape of our nation before an international audience.

Also occurring on Wednesday, was the commissioning of a display at the Piarco International

Airport by the Trinidad and Tobago Postal Corporation, of its Stamps and Philatelic Collection, highlighting the areas of culture, arts, cuisine, flora, fauna, sports, fauna, sports, heroes and iconic leaders past and present of Trinidad and Tobago.

General Manager of the Authority, Mr. Hayden Newton, stated that “these initiatives contribute toward accomplishing the overarching objective to enhance customer service and the visitor experience at our airport facilities.

He added that, “The Authority aims to ensure that the Piarco and ANR Robinson International Airports become destinations in their own right, and is committed to offering added comfort and convenience, a greater variety of concessionaire options, entertainment, improved efficiencies and quality services for the benefit of all of our valued customers”.
