Catholic church says no more than 25 for weddings, funerals, wakes

The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Port of Spain has advised that effective immediately, there should be a limit of 25 people or fewer for all weddings, funerals and wakes with abridged versions of the liturgy in order to most effectively maintain social distancing as requested by the Government and health experts.

The Archdiocese said it will continue to closely monitor the situation in consultation with an interdisciplinary team which includes health care officials on the deadly pandemic. It added that faith formation and other congregational gatherings will also be suspended during this time. Parishes can make arrangements for the continuing formation of children or the rest of the faithful through the available digital resources.

However, the Clergy are encouraged to remain attentive to the needs of those who are alone or sick and to offer them spiritual solace while taking the necessary precautions. This can include taking the Eucharist to homes and celebrating the Sacrament of the Sick. The Clergy has also been asked to remain available and show prudence and pastoral creativity in ministering to their parishioners.

All Catholics are reminded to participate in Holy Mass on Trinity TV or Power 102 FM Radio at 8 am on Sundays.

The Archdiocese further noted that it will continue to keep all apprised of any further developments via facebook.com/catholictt or the Catholic News.

"We keep all impacted by the virus in our prayers and urge the communities to continue
looking out for each other during these times, especially the elderly and other
vulnerable groups. All are urged to be responsible and follow the guidelines as set out by Church and State," the statement ended.
