Catholic Church suspends all masses in light of COVID-19

The Catholic Church has announced that all masses will be suspended from today (Saturday), in light of the COVID-19 virus.

In a statement issued on Saturday, it said the Church needs to escalate its response based on current advice.

It added that because of the special nature of these times, all Catholics are strongly urged to fulfil their Sunday obligation by participating in Mass on Trinity TV or on Power 102 FM at 8 am Sunday.

A daily schedule will be released by March 17.

Archbishop of Port of Spain Jason Gordon is encouraging all persons to pray for increased solidarity and communion at this time.

"Specifically, I am asking all Catholics to pray daily as a family using Scripture and the family rosary, asking the intercession of the Blessed Virgin for our nation. We must not allow fear and panic to prevail."

He added that priests will meet on Monday via technology to discuss concrete ways to minister to the faithful in these times.
