Caught red-handed: Suspects detained during burglary
Two men are expected to appear before a Sangre Grande Magistrate tomorrow after they were allegedly caught ‘red-handed’ stealing from the home of a 58-year-old woman.
According to police reports, the woman was asleep at her home around 3.30 am on Saturday when she was awakened by loud noises.
She immediately notified the police and officers from the Sangre Grande police station, under the supervisions of Snr Sup Aguilal and ASP Joseph, made their way to the woman’s home in Coalmine Village.
WPC Yorke, PC Budhooram, and PC Ramkissoon, arrived at the scene first, and observed two men on the upper level of the home.
The men, on seeing the police, attempted to flee.
One man escaped, while the other, a 22-year-old, was held at the home with a quantity of items.
As a result, he was arrested and immediately questioned.
The officers got intelligence which led them to the home of a 19-year-old man.
At this location, the officers found a quantity of electronic items and other valuables which had been stolen from the woman’s home.
As a result, the 19-year-old was also arrested.
Both men are to be questioned, following which, they will be charged and brought before the courts.
