Chaguanas man in court for stabbing nephew
A 30-year-old man has been granted $75,000 bail after appearing before the courts on allegations of attempting to murder his 17-year-old nephew.
Vinesh Sookdeo of Caroni Savannah Road, Chaguanas, appeared before Magistrate Christine Charles in the Chaguanas Magistrates’ Court on the allegations.
Sookdeo was represented by attorney Shiva Boodoo.
The State was represented by police prosecutor Inspector Waithe.
Cpl Phillips of the Chaguanas CID was the complainant (charging officer) in the matter.
After the charges were read, a bail application was made by Boodoo.
The State did not object to bail, but asked that conditions be made, including the fact that the accused should have absolutely no contact with the 17-year-old victim.
After further submissions, bail was granted and the matter was adjourned to October 10.
The incident reportedly took place on September 5.
The teenager and his uncle reportedly had an argument during which the older man allegedly secured a scissors and stabbed the younger man in the abdomen.
The teenager has since been discharged from hospital.
