Update: Children escape as fire claims six homes in Beetham

Updated at 1.25pm, Friday 24 January:

Speaking on the scene of the fire, Acting Chief Marlon Smith indicated that seven homes were affected by the fire; six of these homes were completely destroyed, while the seventh has water damage.

At this time, officers suspect that the fire was electrical.

It's reported that 20 people, including 10 children have now been rendered homeless as a result of the fire.

 

Original Story:

Two children narrowly escaped death after being trapped in their home during a fire earlier today. 

According to reports, around 11.25am, the Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service received a report of a fire in Beetham Gardens. 

Officers from the Wrightson Road Headquarters and the Belmont Fire Station responded along with police officers from the Besson Street Police Station and the Inter Agency Task Force. 

On arriving, firefighters from the saw four homes ablaze on 25th Street, Phase 4, Beetham Gardens. 

Residents and firefighters were able to get the children out of harm’s way. Reports say everyone has been accounted for. 

A cause for the blaze nor an estimated value of the damage has been revealed.
