Chopped in the forest: Santa Cruz man warded in serious condition

A 41-year-old man is currently warded in a serious condition at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex after he was repeatedly chopped in St Joseph.

The victim has been identified as Kurlan George, of Stollmeyer Street, Santa Cruz.

According to police reports, around 5:40 pm on Thursday, the victim journeyed into the hills off Hobal Trace, Maracas St Joseph with a man known to him.

While they were hiking, the two men got into a confrontation, during which the suspect pulled out a cutlass and chopped George repeatedly.

The suspect then escaped.

The victim was able to return to the village and raised an alarm.

George was assisted by residents of the area and was conveyed to the Maracas St. Joseph police station, before being rushed for medical treatment.

From the initial examination, while the injuries are severe, they did not appear to be life-threatening. He will undergo further tests.
