Isolated thunderstorm activity in North Western Trinidad has left several parts of downtown Port of Spain underwater.

And while floodwaters have begun to subside, the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management (ODPM) is advising citizens to exercise caution when traversing the roadway or seek alternative routes where possible.

The public is further advised to delay travel for approximately up to two hours where possible.

The ODPM says citizens should continue to monitor official channels for weather updates or visit www.metoffice.gov.tt or www.odpm.gov.tt.

The ODPM stressed that T&T is not currently under any tropical storm or hurricane threat, watch or warning.

Citizens are advised of the following safety tips:

1. After heavy rainfall, stay inside until water levels have subsided;

2. Do not walk, play or drive through flood waters of unknown depth and current;

3. Be cautious when walking /driving along hillsides or landslide-prone areas;

4. If impacted by the inclement weather, please contact your Municipal Corporation or the Tobago Emergency Management Agency (TEMA) through its toll-free hotline numbers.
