Clerk takes over from De Souza at Republic Bank Barbados

Republic Bank (Barbados) Ltd. has announced the retirement of its Managing Director and CEO, Ian De Souza, who will be succeeded by Anthony Clerk.

De Souza’s retirement takes effect on October 8, 2017, after 40 years in the banking industry and 25 years with the Republic Bank Group. He spent the last five years leading Republic Bank’s Barbados operations.

In a press notice, the bank thanked De Souza for his sterling service, crediting him with developing its corporate business and retail portfolios and increasing employee engagement. He was also praised for championing the cause of indigenous banks on the correspondent bank de-risking and leading the charge on the introduction of a credit bureau to Barbados.

His successor, Anthony Clerk, is another career banker, who has been with the Republic Bank Group since 1982.

He currently holds the position of Regional Corporate Manager in the Corporate Business Division in Trinidad & Tobago. He has an Executive MBA and a Diploma in Business Management from the University of the West Indies and a Diploma in Banking and Finance from the Institute of Banking and Finance of Trinidad & Tobago.
