Close to 500 guns seized for 2018

With the seizure of five firearms over a seven day period, the Northern Division is officially the first policing district to remove over 100 firearms off the streets of this country.

The seizures were conducted by various units throughout the district, all under the supervision of ACP McDonald Jacob and Snr Sup Michael Daniel.

With the five seizures, the Northern Division has removed a total of 102 weapons.

Two of the last five seizures were done by a team of officers from the Northern Division Task Force, under the supervision of Sgt Ishmael Pitt.

Pitt and his team have been praised for their actions, as one of the seizures has even led to the arrests of suspects who have been brought before the courts.

In the other districts for the year thus far, the Southern Division has seized 88 firearms, Central Division has seized 82, South Western Division has seized 48, Eastern Division has seized 47, the Western Division and the Port of Spain Division have seized 43 firearms each, the North Eastern Division has seized 36, while Tobago has seized a total of firearms.

This has brought the total number of firearms seized for the year up to 498.
