Coast Guard intercepts vessel crossing border from Venezuela into T&T

The Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard (TTCG) intercepted a vessel crossing the border from Venezuela into Trinidad waters over the weekend.
In a statement, the TTCG said on Sunday while conducting border security patrol it intercepted a vessel named ‘AMANDA’ off the Southwestern coast of Trinidad.
It said the vessel had been observed crossing the border from Venezuela into Trinidad and Tobago waters.
There were three male Trinidad and Tobago nationals on board.
Upon searching the vessel, a cargo of shrimp was discovered.
The vessel was detained and its crew and cargo were handed over to representatives of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), Customs and Excise Division and Immigration Division.
Investigations are continuing.
The TTCG added that it continues to provide border security services in the face of the threat of Covid-19 in order to maintain the safety and security of the Trinidad and Tobago through the conduct of maritime security patrols.
