Coast Guard intercepts vessel with Venezuelan nationals, livestock

The Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard intercepted a pirogue with two male Venezuelan nationals on board south of Icacos Point on Saturday.

There were also 42 goats and one sheep on the vessel.

Further searches were conducted and 12 bottles of alcohol were also discovered.

The Coast Guard said the vessel and its passengers were in contravention of Customs and Excise Laws, as well as the Animals (Disease and Importation Act).

As such, they were escorted to the Coast Guard Headquarters at Staubles Bay, Chaguaramas for further processing.

The occupants and livestock were subsequently handed over to partner agencies.
