An investigation will be launched following a police-involved shooting incident which occurred in South Trinidad on Tuesday morning, in which a member of the Coast Guard was wounded.
Preliminary reports revealed that officers of the Port of Spain Division, accompanied by a bailiff, proceeded to Berridge Trace, South Oropouche, around 5.45 am, on Tuesday, to effect an eviction pursuant to a High Court judgment.
Upon arriving at the location, the officers were reportedly attacked by a man with a cutlass.
In accordance with the Use of Force policy, one of the officers discharged his firearm, striking the man in his lower abdomen.
The man was taken to the San Fernando General Hospital for treatment.
The wounded man is a 34-year-old of Berridge Trace, South Oropouche.
Investigations are ongoing into the incident.
