'Coast guard officers' held after bar fight
Five men, including persons who purported to be coast guard officers, were arrested following a confrontation with police at a bar in Freeport.
The incident reportedly took place at about 3:00 am on Tuesday at a popular bar along Bank Village, Freeport.
According to police reports, officers received information that a man with a black pouch may have been carrying illegal items.
When officers arrived, they observed several persons at the bar with black pouches.
The lawmen attempted to search one suspect, who was said to be smoking a cigarette of unusual length, however, they were greeted by a group of men in a hostile manner.
Some members of this group claimed they were coast guard officers, and allegedly used obscene language towards the lawmen, and even assaulted the officers.
The police called for backup, and with the assistance of other officers from the Freeport Police Station, they were able to detain five people: - a 32-year-old man from Bon Air West, Arouca
- a 32-year-old from Aberdeen Street, Biche
- a 30-year-old man from Mt Lambert Drive, Bon Air Gardens, Arouca
- a 33-year-old man from Chaconia Crescent, Four Roads, Diego Martin, and
- a 37-year-old man from Woodford Street, Newtown, Port of Spain.
Sgt Rosan is continuing inquiries.
