Cocaine seized at Point Lisas Port

An approximated 25 kilogrammes of cocaine bound for St Maarten was intercepted at the Point Lisas Port last week. 

Officers of the Organised Crime and Intelligence Unit (OCIU) along with officers of the Customs and Excise Division made the seizure on Tuesday.

Police reports indicate that around 9 pm on February 5, 2019 a container arrived at the Export Division, Point Lisas, Port from Maturita, Arima to be exported to St. Maarten.

The container was scanned and its contents were found to be suspicious.

Officers of the OCIU were contacted and with the assistance of a Customs Officer the container was opened and the packages were searched.

Officers discovered 24.56 kgs of cocaine in the container.  

Investigations are continuing.
