'Con man' charged with scamming market vendors
A 55-year-old man has appeared before a Port of Spain Magistrate on allegations of larceny.
John Whitter was arrested on Saturday by officers of the Port of Spain City Police, and he appeared before a Port of Spain Magistrate yesterday.
It was alleged that he would pick up items from vendors' stalls at the Port of Spain Central Market during a busy period then demand that he be handed change, insisting that he had paid the vendors.
After intimidating the vendors, he would then leave with the cash and produce.
Whitter was held over the weekend and charged by WPC Lawrence after a series of investigations.
After the charge was read against the 55-year-old man, the court was informed that the accused had prior matters before the courts, and as such, he was remanded in custody and the matter was adjourned.
More on this as it becomes available.
