Confirmed! Olatunji Yearwood to appear on X Factor

The speculation is over. Olatunji Yearwood will definitely be appearing on the new season of the UK’s top reality talent show The X Factor.

Ola, as he is popularly known, will appear on the top-rated show tonight when the second episode of the season airs on the UK’s ITV channel at 3 pm Trinidad and Tobago time. Ola is featured in the promo for the episode.

Ola will appear in the audition process before the panel of celebrity judges: Simon Cowell, pop icon Robbie Williams, his wife Ayda Fields and Louis Tomlinson of One Direction.

His camp is mum about his progress on the show.

However, Ola, who is currently in T&T, told Loop that he was invited to audition for the show.

“Actually Kyle, my good friend and Manager, was contacted and told about the show sometime in May this year and he then pitched the idea to me. I was really interested and we did an initial audition via Skype and we were selected to audition in front of the judges at Wembley Arena,” he said.

Ola said thus far it has been hard work and really hectic days taping for this initial audition stage.

“We’ve sacrificed a lot of gigs and Carnivals this year as well because of the X Factor because the team really felt this opportunity to perform Soca music and showcase sweet Trinidad and Tobago to millions of people that never even heard of our genre could not be missed. It’s literally our chance to put our music on a global stage and we decided to go for it. Some would say it’s a risk but it’s a risk we were willing to take in order to showcase Soca music. I would just love everyone in Trinbago and the wider Caribbean to tune in and Let’s Push D Soca Global,” he urged.

On July 24, a GIF of Ola dancing appeared on the show’s Twitter feed fuelling speculation that he would be appearing on it.

Due to contractual obligations, his camp could not reveal any information at the time.

Ola won the Groovy Soca Monarch title in T&T in 2015.

For the 2018 season, he released ‘Bodyline’, a song which many considered to be outside the soca genre with its Big Band feel.

To catch Ola on the X Factor, tune into ITV online or on cable tv on AXS. The show airs at 8 pm UK time and 3 pm T&T time.
