Construction businesses raided by police

The offices of several well-known contractors were raided yesterday afternoon by officers of the Anti-Corruption Bureau.

The offices, which were said to be in Cunupia, La Brea and Penal, and Piarco, were said to have been raided almost simultaneously for documents related to fraudulent exchanges and dealings involving contracts received under the tenure of the People’s Partnership Government.

At the time of each search, attorneys for the business owners were said to be present.

Investigators at the Anti-Corruption Bureau were presented with several documents last year by persons who alleged wrongdoing in the distribution of the contracts.

A press conference is expected to be called on Friday by the attorneys to the businessmen in relation to these allegations, and the actions of the officers.
