Cops arrest four, seize drugs, ammo in police exercises
Exercises across the country on Friday resulted in the seizure of cocaine, marijuana, ammunition and firearms and the arrest of four people.
In the Central Division, an anti-crime exercise conducted between 9 am and 7 pm on Friday, officers of the Central Special Crime Unit arrested one man after quantities of cocaine and marijuana and ammo were found at his home.
During the exercise, officers executed a search warrant at the Madras Road, Cunupia home of a 30-year-old man. Police found 25 grammes of cocaine, 45 grammes of marijuana and one magazine loaded with 11 rounds of 9mm ammo at the back of the man’s home.
Then, in a police exercise in the Northern Division, two men were arrested and a pistol and a quantity of ammo seized by officers in the Maloney district.
During the exercise, officers proceeded to Apartment Building 19, where they observed two men acting suspiciously. The officers conducted a search of the men and found one Fabrique pistol, loaded with a magazine containing 10 rounds of 9mm ammo in the possession of one the men.
The men, aged 41 years and 33 years of age, both of Maloney were arrested in connection with the find.
During an anti-crime exercise conducted in the Arima district between 3:30 pm and 7:30 pm, a 21-year-old Arima man was arrested and a revolver and five rounds of ammo found in his possession.
During the exercise, officers stopped and searched a Nissan Almera motor vehicle with four male occupants along Gordon Street. One of the suspects was found with the firearm and ammo in his possession.
The man was arrested in connection with the find.
And finally, in the South Western Division Task Force, a man was arrested and a quantity of marijuana seized by officers during an anti-crime exercise conducted in the Penal district around 1:30 pm.
During the exercise, officers had cause to stop and search a Nissan Almera motor vehicle with a lone male occupant.
A black plastic bag containing 2.43 kilogrammes of marijuana was discovered on the back seat of the vehicle.
The suspect, a 51-year-old labourer of Princes Town was arrested in connection with the find.
The drug has an estimated street value of $24,300.
Investigations are ongoing into all the matters.
