Cops arrest two for Chinese supermarket robbery
Two men are in police custody after they allegedly robbed a Chinese supermarket.
The men, a 19-year-old from Coconut Drive, Morvant, and a 33-year-old from Grace Lane, La Romaine, were held as a result of the swift response of officers of the Southern Division, under the supervision of Snr Supt Wayne Mohammed.
The incident took place around 7.30 pm on Wednesday.
The owner of the Fujian Supermarket, located at Keith Street, San Fernando, was conducting sales at her business place when three men entered.
Two men pulled out firearms and announced a hold up.
They then proceeded to rob the 36-year-old woman, who is also a Chinese national, of an undisclosed quantity of cash.
However, while this was going on, persons in the store managed to notify the police.
PC Crawford and PC Charles, who were in the area at the time, immediately responded.
The two officers, with the assistance of Cpl Marcelle and WPC Alexander, managed to surround the supermarket.
They were able to intercept two of the suspects as they tried to escape in a waiting vehicle.
The third man fled the scene, however, police said his arrest was imminent.
A total of $490 was recovered from the 19-year-old, while $440 was recovered from the 33-year-old.
PC Charles is continuing inquiries.
