Cops engage in dramatic car chase, shootout in Barataria

In a scene resembling that of an action movie, police officers engaged in a dramatic car chase and shootout in Barataria on Tuesday evening, leading to one car crashing into a wall.

According to reports, around 5:00 pm Tuesday, a team of officers from the North Eastern Division Hot Spot Patrol Unit were conducting mobile patrols in the vicinity of Seventh Avenue, Barataria when they had cause to intercept a vehicle.

However, instead of complying with the lawmen, the driver of the car attempted to flee the scene.

The driver managed to get a short distance away before losing control of the vehicle and crashing into a wall.

He then exited the car and fled the scene on foot.

Police reported hearing several loud explosions in the process, and it was believed that the assailant may have fired upon the lawmen as he made good his escape.

The crashed vehicle was searched and the officers allegedly found and seized a quantity of compressed marijuana in the car, which had an estimated street worth of $50,000.

More on this as it becomes available.
