Twenty-two Venezuelans were detained by officers of the South Western Division Task Force (SWDTF) for illegal entry into Trinidad on Sunday.

According to reports, the lawmen received information that a boatload of citizens from the Bolivarian Republic was seen walking from the Palo Seco Beach and were heading to the James Street area.

As a result, checks were made which led to the arrest of 22 illegal immigrants.

The detainees were taken to the Siparia Health Facility where they were medically examined. They were then photographed at the Siparia Police Headquarters before being taken to the Erin Police Station.

The TTPS said the group is expected to be conveyed to the Coast Guard Base at the Heliport in Chaguaramas.

The exercise was coordinated by Senior Superintendent John, ASP Ramdeen, Inspector Simon and was supervised by Sergeant Breedy and Corporal Prince.
