Cops hold San Juan man 'minutes' after robbery

Police said a San Juan man was held just minutes after a 45-year-old woman was robbed of her handbag in Barataria on Sunday. 

According to a statement from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), the victim, a 45-year-old woman, told police she was walking along 8th Street, Barataria, around 8:20 am on Sunday morning when a man walked up behind her and grabbed her handbag, which contained cash and some valuables.

The woman said when she did not let go of the bag, the assailant physically assaulted her by grabbing her by the neck and pushing her.

She was then forced to let go of the bag and the man ran off with it.

A report was made to the police, and officers arrested the suspect; a 23-year-old man of 2nd Caledonia, San Juan, shortly after and retrieved the bag and valuables.

Investigations are ongoing.
