Cops hold suspect after fruit vendor robbed

One man is in custody after he allegedly robbed a fruit vendor in San Fernando on Monday.

The victim told police he was conducting sales at his fruit stall along Gulf View Link Road, San Fernando when at about 11.15 am, he was approached by two men.

The men attacked the 45-year-old vendor and announced a hold-up.

They then proceeded to relieve the victim of his cash and valuables – including an estimated $2,800 which the vendor had on his person at the time.

They then fled the scene and entered a waiting Nissan AD Wagon.

The police were notified, and officers were able to intercept the vehicle along Hermitage Village.

At the time, however, only one man was in custody – a 32-year-old from George Street, Siparia.

More on this as it becomes available.
