Cops nab car thieves in Las Lomas

The recovery of a stolen vehicle in Las Lomas over the weekend resulted in a shootout between police and four suspects.

Three of the suspects were held, while the gunman remains at large.

Officers of the Northern Division Area Task Force on patrol along the Caroni South Bank Road, Las Lomas, around 12pm on Sunday received a report of a vehicle being stolen from the PriceSmart carpark, Mausica, D’Abadie.

They spotted and intercepted the vehicle, a green Ford Ranger; and seized a gold Nissan Almera and a silver grey Nissan B15, in which the suspects were travelling in at the time, along Soriah Trace, Las Lomas.

As officers approached the vehicles, one of the occupants of the Nissan B15, fired upon them.

The officers returned fire, but the suspect managed to escape into some nearby bushes.

Officers searched the vehicle and found four rounds of ammunition.

Three men, a 36-year-old of Cumuto, a 39-year-old of La Horquetta, and a 29-year-old of Arima, who were drivers of the vehicles were arrested.
