Cops probe 'gang' images circulating on social media

Images and information being circulated on social media on Wednesday, which have identified persons as alleged gang leaders, financiers, and “shooters” are being investigated.

This was confirmed Thursday morning by senior officials in the police service, who noted that officers in the Organised Crime and Intelligence Unit, as well as the Cyber Crime Unit, had been tapped to investigate the claims.

The list of persons, and their roles, were uploaded and shared on various social media sites, including Facebook, Twitter, and WhatsApp.

Men and women alike are named in this list, with information being shared of their alleged affiliations to several gangs including the Unruly Isis Gang, and the Cocorite Muslim Gang.

This “list” came after businessman Dwayne King of Waterhole Cocorite, was attacked while driving along the Beetham Highway on Tuesday.

Up to 10 am on Thursday, King, police said, was warded in the hospital, receiving treatment for three gunshot injuries.

He is expected to recover from his injuries.

Police have since increased their patrols and presence in the Cocorite community as well as the Beetham Gardens community following the shooting.

There was even said to be an increased presence at the hospital since Tuesday’s attack.
