Cops recover four firearms after Central shootout
Police have allegedly seized four firearms following a confrontation between police officers and eight men in Central Trinidad Tuesday afternoon.
The confrontation left one man dead, and eight others – said to be between the ages of 18 and 35 – in custody.
The deceased has been identified as 19-year-old Azizi Muwasi of St Paul Street, Chaguanas.
The other eight men, LoopTT was told, are being kept in separate police stations and are aiding with inquiries.
The weapons seized, including two pistols and two revolvers, are expected to be sent for ballistic testing to determine if it can be linked to any other criminal activities.
The alleged incident is said to have occurred when Central Division officers went to the home of a priority offender at Pierre Road in Felicity.
The officers were confronted by a group of nine men, one of whom is said to have pulled out a gun and pointed it at the police.
The officers then responded “in accordance with the use of force policy” and shot at the suspect.
The other eight men immediately surrendered.
No police officer was injured in the exchange.
