Cops seize guns, ammo and $170K in marijuana
Police exercises in the South Western and Southern Divisions between Tuesday and Wednesday morning led to the seizure of firearms, ammunition and narcotics.
A number of fixed penalty notices for breach of the speed limit and other offences were also issued.
In the South Western Division Ag. Inspector Nemai, Ag. Cpl. Carter along with a party of officers attached to the Point Fortin Criminal Investigations Department and Police Station conducted several anti-crime exercises in the Oropouche, Point Fortin and Siparia districts.
During the exercises, which took place between 10 am on Tuesday and 4 am on Wednesday, 52 fixed penalty notices were issued of which 35 were for breach of the speed limit.
Ttwo rifles, 40 rounds 5.56 ammunition, two magazines and 11.34 kilogrammes marijuana with a street value of $170,100.00 were also found and seized. The exercises were coordinated by Supt Phillip, ASP Douglas, Inspector Ramphal, Sgt. Ramsingh and Sgt. Mungroo.
Meanwhile, in the Southern Division exercises were carried out in Barrackpore, Gasparillo, Marabella, Mon Repos, Moruga, Princes Town, St. Margaret’s, St. Mary’s, Ste. Madeline, San Fernando and Tableland between the hours of 8 am on Tuesday and 8 am on Wednesday.
Sgt Parasram and Sgt Ramlogan, along with a party of officers attached to the Southern Division conducted the exercises in these districts.
Thirty fixed penalty notices were issued of which 14 were for breach of the speed limit, and 6 people were arrested for various offences which included possession of marijuana, outstanding warrant and obstructing a police officer.
