'Corn lady' accused of scamming people to be placed on ID parades

A “corn-lady” is expected to be placed on several identification parades this weekend after she has been linked to at least ten allegations of fraud.

The woman, a 39-year-old from Arouca, allegedly took down payments from several people to rent buildings which she did not own.

When these people attempted to move into the apartments, they were confronted by the persons living there and informed of the scam.

Several reports of a similar nature were made in the Barataria, St Joseph and Arouca districts, and the description for the suspect matched that of the 39-year-old woman.

As a result, she is to be placed on identification parades.

The woman, police said, was well known in the community as a popular food vendor who sold corn, and as such, her alleged behaviour was surprising to them.

However, after inquiries were conducted into the allegations she was arrested on Thursday.
