Updated: Corporation Chairman to be charged for accepting $1500 bribe

Chairman of the Mayaro/Rio Claro Regional Corporation Glen Ram has been arrested on corruption charges in relation to receiving a bribe in June 2018.
Meanwhile, an office manager at the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs, Point Fortin, was arrested at her South Oropouche home, for fraudulent offences.
Ram was detained by officers of the Anti-Corruption Investigations Bureau (ACIB) on Wednesday and is expected to be charged with corruptly agreeing to receive a bribe and corruptly receiving a bribe valued at $1500.
The office manager, a 29-year-old woman who has not been named by police, is expected to be charged with corruptly causing a cheque to be made and uttering a forged document sometime between 2010 and 2015.
The cheque is valued at $10,000.
W/Cpl (Ag.) Yearwood and PC John, both of ACIB, are continuing enquiries into these matters.

Ram was held by police officers at the corporation’s office in Rio Claro around 11.30 am Wednesday.
UNC Public Relations Officer, Anita Haynes could not confirm whether he had been arrested but said he has been detained and remains in police custody where he is being questioned.
She confirmed that the councillor for the Biche/Charuma electoral district was picked up from his office this morning by ACIB officers, who were accompanied by members of the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force.
Haynes, who has been in contact with Mayaro MP Rushton Paray said the party has been in contact with Ram’s wife.
The UNC PRO said they would not comment on the police investigation, but will issue a statement shortly.
A former Ministry of Sport employee was detained on Tuesday by ACIB officers in relation to the same matter.
Minister of Rural Development and Local Government Kazim Hosein said he has not been able to confirm the reports or the circumstances surrounding Ram’s detention as he has been unable to reach the Corporation by telephone.
