The family of a pregnant mother who died after being shot during protests in Beetham on Tuesday is receiving counselling from the state.
Ornella Greaves, who was four months pregnant, leaves to mourn her husband and their four children.
Responding to an urgent question in the Senate on Thursday, Leader of Government Business Clarence Rambharat noted that the process after a murder occurs involves counselling for the families of the victims from the Victim and Witness Support Unit of the Police Service.
He noted that the Unit has been providing support to Greaves’ family.
In the instance that additional support is required, the Ministry of Social Development and Family Services gets involved.
“The Ministry of Social Development and Family Services provides counselling thereafter, once the family is still in need of further care and counselling after the initial intervention of the support given by the unit.”
