Couple robbed of US $5k in San Juan
North Eastern Division police are investigating a report of robbery in which the victims were relieved of over US$5,000.
The couple, a 31-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman, were reportedly robbed along El Socorro Road, San Juan on Wednesday night.
They allegedly agreed to meet with an individual to sell the US currency they had in their possession at a rate of TT$8 – US$1.
However, when they arrived at the location to meet the individual for the sale, a black Mazda 323 pulled up alongside them.
Two men exited the vehicle, one of whom was armed with a firearm.
The men announced a hold up and relieved the couple of the cash – said to be an estimated US$5,350.
The assailants then escaped.
The couple made a report to the Barataria police, who are conducting inquiries.
