Couva man held with $24M in drugs granted bail

A Couva man charged who was allegedly held with $24 million in cocaine was placed on $7 million bail.

According to an update from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), 52-year-old Outhar Maraj appeared before a Tunapuna Magistrate after he was held and charged last Wednesday. 

Maraj, of Mc Bean Village, Couva, was driving along Morequito Road, Valsayn, near the Valpark Shopping Plaza, when his vehicle was intercepted by officers who were acting on information received.

After searching the vehicle, police found three white crocus bags and one black garbage bag with 56.56 kilogrammes of cocaine in the trunk.

The cocaine was valued at $22.6 million.

A search warrant was subsequently executed at Maraj's Maruana Road, Valsayn, home where 17.38 kilogrammes of marijuana worth $1.5 million were found.

Police also found and seized two revolvers, two pistols and 331 rounds of assorted ammunition.

The matter was adjourned to December 13, 2017.
