The Couva/ Tabaquite/ Talparo Regional Corporation is calling on the Government to release funds to assist in infrastructure work in the areas under its purview.
In a release, the Corporation said it continues to struggle to carry out its operations, as releases from Central Government, Budget Division has not been forthcoming for this fiscal year.
"At present, roads, drainage projects and repairs to landslips after the devasting Divali week floods are being greatly affected due to lack of funding available for the purchasing of materials. The Corporation Transporation Department is also reeling from the lack of funds as cut backs to fuel and maintenance has been prompted. Readiness and preparation of recreational grounds for the upcoming cricket season is also a source of concern," the release said.
The Corporation said it relies heavily on a compliment of contracted janitorial workers for the maintenance of its cremation sites and promenades but these positions have not been contracted out due to the uncertainty of the availability of funding.
Chairman Henry Awong is calling on Central Government to make releases available in a timely manner as the present situation is crippling to the operations of the Corporation.
Efforts to contact Local Government Minister Kazim Hosein was not successful.
