Update: Four more people contract COVID-19; active cases at 2,039

Four additional people have tested positive for COVID-19, according to the Ministry of Health's 6 pm clinical update.

Active cases now stand at 2,039.

To date, the number of people who have been confirmed to have the novel coronavirus are 4,386.

Seventy-two individuals have succumbed to the viral respiratory illness.

Meanwhile, 931 people have been discharged from public health facilities with 1,344 recovered community patients.

In addition, 30,765 samples have been submitted to the Caribbean Public Health Agency, the UWI and other local sites for testing.

The Ministry of Health has revealed that another person has died from COVID-19 in Trinidad and Tobago. The Ministry advised that the person is an elderly female with comorbidities. This brings the total number of COVID-19 related deaths to 72. 

Another 20 samples have tested positive for the virus. 

In lighter aspects, 41 people have recovered. Five of these patients were discharged from public health facilities while 36 are recovered community cases. 

As it stands, of the 2,035 active cases, 106 patients are in the hospital and 112 are in step-down facilities. 

A total sample load of 30,679 has been submitted for testing, bringing the total number of positive samples to 4,382; 27,616 people have been tested.
