RAMCO has assured the public that they remain open and ready to serve customers.
The company, which supplies cooking gas (LPG) to the country, issued a statement via social media after rumours circulated that they had closed.
The development comes after government urged business places such as bars and restaurants to close in order to prevent gatherings of 25 people or more, in an effort to stop the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
As of March 18, 2020 at 10.19 am, Trinidad and Tobago has seven confirmed cases of the virus.
RAMCO said however that they will remain open in order to bring much-needed LPG to customers.
"We’re open for business. Get your filled Ramco cylinders delivered straight to your door! Our cylinders are sanitized in order to keep you and your family safe!"
One customer asked: "Heard you were locking off on Friday, is this true?"
The company replied however that they will remain open: "There is no truth to this statement. If you have heard this please disregard. Follow our channels for official updates and as you can see from this post we are open to serve."
The Ministry of Communication also debunked the rumour as 'fake news':
The company added that they are carrying out enhanced health and safety measures to ensure the safety of their staff.
The company said in a social media update: "In light of the recent developments of Covid-19, we’d like to inform all our customers, both residential and commercial, that ALL our filled gas cylinders are properly checked and sanitized before filling your order."
All public schools have been closed until April 20, 2020 and several restaurants, bars and cineplexes have also announced closures this week.
Food courts in local shopping malls have stopped all dine-in services and are instead offering takeout services.
Customers expressed appreciation for the company's service.
Nell Alma-Rags: "Thank you Ramco for your support and continuous supply. Now a lot of folks are at home and should not go out to food places, there will be more cooking at home. Need to have a reliable supply at this critical time we face. Thanks again."
Ak Eagle: "Hey that is so good that you are delivering the gas to your people."
Customers wishing to have tanks delivered to them are asked to call 800-4LPG (4574) or 800-COOK (2665).
