Merissa Aguilleira, West Indies and Trinidad and Tobago cricketer, is intent on using her success to better the lives of children in the community of Marac, Moruga, where she grew up.

On Thursday, August 2, over 300 children from the village of Marac and neighbouring villages, received back to school items such as notebooks, copy books, drawing books and many other stationery items. The recipients ranged from first year to form 5 students.

2018 marked the fifth year of the programme and Aguilleira's dream is that it never ends.

In 2014 when the programme was established, it was aimed at assisting the primary school children of Marac and La Lune, but with the help of gas company Atlantic, the programme has expanded every year since.

"I really believe in giving back to the community and remembering where you came from, so I thank God for Atlantic, who has given me the opportunity to do so", Aguilleira said.

Aguilleira is one of the ambassadors of the sport for Atlantic and through this initiative she has aligned with Atlantic's core values of community development.

Anil Seunath, Brand and Sponsorship Officer of Atlantic has been attending the programme from its inception and is very pleased with the growth over the years.

"She has done tremendous work for us over the years, motivating youths throughout the country and it's only natural that we support any initiative that Merissa would like to get involved in..." he said.

The programme continues to be well received by the parents and children of Moruga.
